About Us
Founded in 2019 by philanthropist Alice Walton, we’re on a mission to increase access to care, improve outcomes, and transform the health care system as we know it.
Whole person health is the very heart of what we do. We’re Heartland Whole Health Institute.
The United States has one of the highest levels of health care spending worldwide, yet our overall health rankings are lower than peer countries. This national health crisis, coupled with her own health care experience, inspired Alice Walton to launch Heartland Whole Health Institute.
We aim to transform health care by:
- Improving quality
- Reducing costs
- Expanding access
Through research, advocacy, and education we develop care and payment models that can be duplicated here in the Heartland and across the country.
Our Collaboration with Alice L. Walton School of Medicine
We share our mission with the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, located on the Crystal Bridges Campus. A four–year, MD–degree–granting program enhancing medical education with a whole–person approach, the School fills a longstanding gap in physician training in Northwest Arkansas. The Institute partners closely with the School through teaching collaborations, curriculum consultation, and faculty research support.
